THE SEARCH FOR A MARINE WHO FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR ROLL CALL LAUNCHES NCIS AGENTS INTO A WORLD OF CALLS AND TEXTS, A RELATIONSHIP BUILT ON LIES, AND AN ILL-FATED CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY IN "48 HOURS: NCIS: DEADLY LIES"

Tuesday, June 19 - 10:00 PM, ET/PT

When a Marine failed to show up for roll call at the Navy Marine intelligence training center at a naval base in Virginia Beach, friends and co-workers had a sense that something just was not right. Justin Huff was a good Marine, they say, and he would never leave without permission.

NCIS agents take viewers into the search for Huff, which launched them into a world of a woman's secret identity; a relationship built on lies; catfishing, where a person pretends to be someone else; and an ill-fated case of mistaken identity, in 48 HOURS: NCIS: "Deadly Lies" to be broadcast Tuesday, June 19 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

"In this job we see a lot of good, we see a lot of bad, but this one always takes you back to why," says NCIS Special Agent Bill Elflein. "Why be so random and so devastating?"

48 HOURS: NCIS is a six-part series from the award-winning team behind 48 HOURS that takes viewers inside the difficult cases faced by NCIS agents, who investigate murders, track killers fugitives and use the latest technology to solve cases that once seemed unsolvable. Rocky Carroll, star of CBS' drama series NCIS, is again the narrator in the second season of the series.

NCIS Agent Maureen Evans says it seemed that Justin Huff just disappeared. "It's almost like he stepped out for a minute."

Huff never returned.

"And Justin Huff was a good person - he was a decorated Marine," Elflein says. "He fought for his country in two tours in Iraq. He was a loving husband and a soon-to-be father."

The investigation would uncover a videotape of Huff leaving his dorm in the middle of the night. Agents would also learn he got a visit from someone purporting to be an NCIS agent who wanted to talk with him about a sexual assault.

Soon the investigation would lead to Cooper Jackson, a Navy intelligence specialist. Jackson and Huff didn't know each other but were connected in a way NCIS agents say they never could have predicted. There was a woman who called herself Samantha, who had built a persona by using suggestive photos of a petite blonde woman she pulled from the internet - to lead others on.

Jackson, NCIS agents found out, was smitten with Samantha.

Could Huff somehow have gotten caught up in that web of lies?

"We could not find a correlation between Samantha and Justin, and that's what we needed to investigate," says Elflein.

"I think Samantha was the catalyst for this whole tragedy," says Don Marcari, Jackson's attorney. "But for her, none of this would have happened."

What did happen? In addition, who is Samantha?

NCIS agents reveal their methodical approach to the investigation and finding out where Justin Huff went the night he left his dorm in 48 HOURS: NCIS: "Deadly Lies."

48 HOURS: NCIS: "Deadly Lies" is produced by Alec Sirken. Ken Blum, George Baluzy, Faith Jones, Mike Vele and Grayce Arlotta-Berner are the editors. Marlon Disla and Phil Tangel are the series' producer-editors. Jonathan Leach is the coordinating producer. Asena Basak is the development producer. Rob Klug is the director. Anthony Batson is the executive producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
