Julianna Margulies Joins All Star Cast of Sci Fi Channel's the Lost Room

JULIANNA MARGULIES JOINS ALL STAR CAST OF SCI FI CHANNEL'S THE LOST ROOM

NEW YORK, NY � August 1, 2006 -- Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies has been cast as the lead actress in SCI FI Channel's 2006 limited series event, The Lost Room. Ms. Margulies will star opposite Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) and joins Roger Bart (Desperate Housewives) and Elle Fanning (The Door in the Floor) in the all-star ensemble. Lionsgate (NYSE:LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, is producing the series which is slated to premiere in December 2006.

Ms. Margulies will play Jennifer, a mysterious woman who contacts Detective Joe Miller (Krause) claiming her brother was killed for a seemingly innocuous motel room key, one that actually has the power to unlock a door into a room full of ordinary objects possessing unimaginable power. When Detective Miller comes into possession of the key, Jennifer tries to warn him of the inherent danger of The Lost Room and the objects within. But when Miller's own daughter (Fanning) vanishes into the room, he must form an uneasy alliance with Jennifer, who opens his eyes to a world of secret cabals who will stop at nothing to secure the key.

Emmy and Screen Actors Guild award winner and Golden Globe nominee Julianna Margulies gained recognition for her portrayal of Nurse Carole Hathaway in the critically acclaimed series ER. Margulies received her sixth straight Emmy nomination for the 2000 season and twice won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series for the program. She will next be seen in David R. Ellis' Snakes on a Plane, opposite Samuel L. Jackson and will follow with Beautiful Ohio directed by Chad Lowe, with Rita Wilson and William Hurt. Margulies just completed a multi-episode guest role in HBO's The Sopranos opposite James Gandolfini. She recently made her Broadway debut in Festen opposite Michael Hayden, Larry Bryggman, Ali MacGraw, and Jeremy Sisto. Margulies' other film credits include the dark comedy The Darwin Awards with Winona Ryder and Joe Fiennes, Slingshot opposite David Arquette and Balthazar Getty, Ghost Ship, opposite Gabriel Byrne, Bruce Beresford's Evelyn opposite Pierce Bronson, What's Cooking an ensemble drama directed by Gurinder Chadha, Richard Linklater's The Newton Boys, Boaz Yakin's A Price Above Rubies, Jack Green's Traveller and Bruce Beresford's Paradise Road. Her television credits include The Grid, alongside Dylan McDermott for which she received a Golden Globe nomination, the CBS original movie, Jenifer, TNT's original The Mists of Avalon with Anjelica Huston and Joan Allen, and starred opposite Andy Garcia and Mick Jagger in the film The Man From Elysian Fields.

The Lost Room continues the tradition of SCI FI's blockbuster television events, which have included the hit originals The Triangle, Legend of Earthsea, Battlestar Galactica, Steven Spielberg presents TAKEN and Frank Herbert's Dune. Production has begun in Albuquerque, New Mexico with Richard Hatem (Supernatural, The Mothman Prophecies) executive producing. The Lost Room is created and written by co-executive producers Christopher Leone, Laura Harkcom and Paul Workman.
